 WORK PACKAGES

WP1. Biomass processing:

The aim of this WP is the transfer of knowledge about novel and sustainable lignocellulosic processing to obtain cellulose pulp and fibres from biomass. In addition, energy production in rural areas obtained from the rest of fractions (lignin, hemicellulose) is also studied. Within this WP, different characterisation methods will be studied, together with the development of novel and sustainable hydrolysis processes as pre-treatment and the production of biochar, fibres and energy.

WP2. Social business model tools:

The following tools will be studied to make decisions about the best business models of cellulose-based products in SMEs and rural areas: artificial neural network models, Life Cycle Assessment, automisation, simulation and optimisation of the processes studied in WP1, together with stakeholders needs, smart territories and information management tools. Biochar, every-day products and cellulose-based products for health will be considered in addition to energy and fuels for SMEs and rural areas. The last task will be the preliminary design of portable pieces of equipment to be used in these areas. This WP will depend on the results obtained in WP1.

W3. Transfer of knowledge of the action:

The aim of this WP is to assure the correct transfer of knowledge in the supervision of the training programme, in order to train and enhance the capabilities of the staff seconded to the host institutions, and the supervision of the transfer of knowledge plan. This WP will depend on the objectives included in WP1 and WP2 and the coordination of WP5.

W4. Exploitation, communication and public engagement:

The aim of this WP is to provide an efficient communication, dissemination and exploitation of the work and results derived from the project, including science and technology outreaching, web page, scientific and exploitation results. At the end of the proposal, the design of educational programmes in rural areas will be carried out. This WP will depend mainly on the results in WP1 and WP2.

W5. Coordination and management of the action:

The aim of this WP is to ensure an adequate coordination and efficient management of the scientific, technical, administrative, financial and legal matters, the secondments in accordance with the plan, guidelines and agreements, to optimise the project planning and improve the quality of results.
